Our client a leading College, is urgently seeking to fill this position with an immediate start
This role is central to the way our client safeguard all of the young people in our clients care. The Student Welfare Officer will work closely with the Designated Person for Safeguarding to ensure that our systems and process for identifying, monitoring and supporting young people at risk are effective and caring, and contribute to the College’s overall aim of raising achievement and standards. The aim is to help students who are at risk, first and foremost ensuring their safety, but also supporting them so that the factors that place them at risk have as little impact on their academic achievement as possible.
The Student Welfare Officer will be the first port of call for any safeguarding or student welfare concerns in the clients business.
They will carry out initial assessments and work with the team of volunteers to ensure that students at risk have support from a caseworker with the appropriate skills, knowledge and time. They will work with the Designated Person to ensure all staff have adequate training and to review the systems in place for identifying, monitoring and tracking students at risk.
A knowledge of the law in Safeguarding and Child Protection
A knowledge of best practice in Safeguarding provision
Experience of working in Safeguarding and student welfare
Experience of working with students or young people in general
Experience of working in a post 16 educational setting
Experience of leading a team
Skills & Abilities
Ability to manage staff
Ability to organise and manage systems for accurate and confidential record keeping
Ability to manage complex and sensitive issues
Willingness to work flexible hours in order to fit activity around the student needs arising
To be the first point of contact for any safeguarding concerns from staff, students or parents.
To assess the risk and need of students who have been identified as at risk, and allocate them to a safeguarding caseworker.
To work personally with a caseload of students, in particular the more complex or time consuming cases, such as Child Protection cases.
To ensure all members of the safeguarding team have the required
To contribute to the counselling provision in the College.
To work with the Designated Person to review student welfare policies and provision in the College,
Evaluate the impact of the work we are doing, and plan for improved delivery in the future
To work with the Designated Person on whole College training and
awareness of student welfare and safeguarding issues.
You MUST have an enhanced DBS within 12 months or on the update service in order to be considered.
