Youth Mentor

Our client in North London is seeking to appoint a number of youth mentors to assist vulnerable 16 -24 year olds who are currently in college to support them to achieve a positive outcome through one to one outreach work. This will be a combination of virtual support and outreach/face to face.
Job Description
- Establish and actively manage a caseload of young people who are 16-24 years’ old supporting young people to overcome the barriers they may face and reviewing and monitoring their progress to enable them to remain in education
- Use a variety of approaches and skills to engage and establish relationships with young people who are at risk of disengaging from learning
- Undertake a needs assessment with all young people in the caseload and agree a bespoke, person centred action plan to identify their goals, the areas they want to work on and the activities they will undertake as part of the project
- Deliver Advice, Mentoring and brokerage services to vulnerable young people
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide range of organisations, professionals, parents and key influencers to ensure appropriate support is available to young people
- Work within an equal opportunities framework to promote equality, diversity and the rights of the individual and to challenge stereotyping and prejudice
- Provide practical support to young people on their case load that helps broker positive outcomes
- Maintain up to date and accurate manual and computerised case records on a daily basis in accordance with contract requirements and compile weekly and monthly statistical returns
Person Specification
- DBS on the update service or within 12 months
- Experience in coaching, IAG or careers guidance or a related field
- Experience of working with vulnerable young people in formal or informal settings and an understanding of the barriers they may face
- Experience of working in a target driven environment and evidence of success in achieving outcomes for young people
- Knowledge of the education, employment and training field
- Ability to establish and maintain relationships with a variety of people at different levels within organisations
- Experience of carrying out assessments of young people’s needs and developing programmes of support tailored to meet them
- High level of self-motivation and an ability to achieve targets, work remotely and monitor own work and performance
- Ability to develop creative solutions and approaches to help young people succeed
- An understanding and active commitment to equality and diversity.
